New shoes

I just got a new pair of shoes, so it is time for a pair or two to leave my closet.

Minimalist

I was took a class last night about becoming a minimalist. The speaker was Joshua Becker. He has written several books that you can get on your Kindle. He said 1 out of every 10 Americans has some kind of storage unit outside of their home. Wow! He had some interesting things to say about how minimalism can look different for each person. It was a great class as it made me think about all the stuff I have.

Tote bags

Tote bags are one of my favorite organizing tools. You can put things you need into them and then easily carry them to your destination. You can also use them to store projects in, like all the tax paperwork you need to take to your CPA. Here's an example of my work tote bag with all my organizing tools.

Car kit for winter weather

It is getting colder, and even though I live in Alabama we all need to be prepared for bad weather. Here are a few things you should store in your car in case you get stuck away from home.
A blanket
A flashlight and batteries
Hat, gloves, scarf, socks
Candle and matches
Snacks like energy bars and bottled water
Ice scraper
Hand warmers (chemical packs)
Cell phone charger for car
Kitty litter or road salt for traction

I like to store everything in an old backpack (easy to carry if you have to leave your car) or a canvas tote.

If you are often out and about with your kids add supplies as needed.

Last year we had a freak ice storm at 10:30 am and most of us were at work or on the way to pick up kids. So this year be prepared!

Junk drawer organization

I got these mesh organizers at HomeGoods today. I like to shop there because they have great organizing products. The only draw back is you may never see them again. So if you like them you better buy them. These 2 bins were only $2.99 (for both)!

Packing a suitcase

Are you taking a trip with a big duffle bag? Here's a packing tip. Put outfits in 1 or 2 gallon ziplock bags. It will keep them clean and dry until you wear them. If you are sending kids, make sure you label them. You are more likely to get all you clothes back. Here is a picture of my son's suitcase when he returned from Greece.
